Accommodation and Transport
AccommodationIt is up to individual conference attendees to organise their own accommodation. Accommodation arrangements should be finalised as quickly as possible, since several conferences are taking place at this time at the University of Sydney campus. This page lists a number of options for accommodation. Please note that the prices given here were those quoted to the LOC at the time of enquiry, but the actual prices may vary. Student AccomodationLow cost accommodation for students is available at Mandelbaum House, a student residence at the University of Sydney. The ASA LOC contacted Mandelbaum House and established that there were vacancies for the dates of the conference. One of the most conveniently located is Rydges, on the corner of Parramatta and Missenden Roads. It is a 5-10 minute walk from the Veterinary Science Conference Centre. Rydges is offering a special deal for conference attendees, and has set up a web page to simplify making a booking (see the link below). The ASA LOC also contacted a number of other hotels and established that there were vacancies for the dates of the conference, at the rates given below. - Rydges Hotel Phone: 9516 1522 9 Missenden Road Camperdown NSW 2050 Rooms from $130 per night (breakfast $17 extra)Details & online booking here - Unilodge Sydney Phone: 9338 5000 Cnr Bay St & Broadway (in the old Grace Bros building) Twin/double room $110 per night Family room $170 per night Breakfast $14.50 extra Booking by email recommended: reservations@unilodge.com.au - University Motor Inn Phone: 9660 5777 25 Arundel St Glebe (over the Parramatta Rd footbridge) Single room $125 Double $140 Triple share $155 Family room $185 All prices include breakfast. AirportSydney airport is located approximately 8 km outside the CBD, and about 4km from the University. It is easily accessible by car, train, and taxi, and less so by bus. Taxi is probably the preferred option, in particular if there is more than one person or if you have luggage. Taxi ranks are located outside the both the international and terminal buildings. Taxi fares are about $30 to the University, and slightly more to the CBD. The airport is also on the Airport and East Hills train line. A trip from Central Station to the airport takes about 10 minutes and costs $11. TrainsThe nearest train station to the University is Redfern Station, which is a 15 minute walk. This map shows the campus and the direction to Redfern Station (lower right). To get to the Airport via train from Redfern it is necessary to first take the train from Redfern to Central Station, and then get on the Airport and East Hills line. BusesThere are regular buses from the University to the CBD which can be boarded from either City Road or Parramatta Road (the two major roads bordering the University). All buses heading towards the city along these roads go to the city. The final destination is indicated on the front of the bus, but ask a driver if you are in doubt about where the bus is going. Bus fares begin at $1.60 for 1-2 sections. Central Station is about one section along the route of the buses into the city (about a kilometre). ParkingUniversity of Sydney Traffic and Security Officers rigidly enforce parking rules on campus. If you park illegally, you are likely to be fined, and the current fine for illegal parking on the University Campus is at least $70.00. Pay attention to all signs and pavement markings. The organisers of the conference are not responsible for parking fines incurred by attendees. Parking vouchers for the University campus are available from the conference organisers at a cost of $6 per day. (The usual University rate is $15 per day.) The vouchers must be paid for at the registration desk at the conference. Please indicate on the registration form how many days you require vouchers for. Note that these vouchers permit you to park in marked bays which have no special restrictions. Pay attention to relevant signs. (For more information, see this page.) Close parking to the Conference Centre is available along Western Avenue, and also from the Veterinary Science Hospital entrance off Parramatta Road. |
