TSP Project UpdatesOur talented students are well on their way in their special projects. We post here an update of their progress. Name - Cameron
Ford (see image) “An investigation into a theoretical model of dusty complex plasmas has begun with a comprehensive model being developed in MATLAB. This model demonstrates the effects of the potential well on the inter-particle force. Comprehensive tweaking of the model is still to be done, with a main aim to gain a numerical figure for the potential gradient of the well, however the model will also prove to be useful for running simulations in the future.”

Page (see image) "This project has involved investigating what causes the angular velocity saturation of coulomb clusters in complex plasma. Using MATLAB to create a model of the coulomb cluster rotating in a magnetic field, a simulation of what happens to the angular velocity of the cluster as the forces on the cluster change has been made. The various parameters that the model involves can then be changed to observe what effect on the angular velocity of the cluster, changing each parameter has, so that a better picture of the cause of angular velocity saturation can be developed. There are still some minor modifications to be made in order to improve the model, with the main goal to be able to understand more about the mechanism that causes angular velocity saturation."
