Information for School Students and Teachers

Kickstart is our program of HSC Physics workshops. In 2008 we ran workshops for nearly 4000 students. More info is here.

In February 2010 Kickstart Physics will tour regional NSW, visiting Armidale (18th and 19th), Dubbo (22nd) and Wagga Wagga (24th and 25th). The booking form is now available.

Kickstart is run by the Faculty of Science. There are also Kickstart programs in Chemistry and Biology.

We run other interactive High School Workshops and Talks and syllabus-based lectures for high-schoolers of all levels on-campus.

Primary school science: Along with our colleagues in the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, the University of Sydney hosts Giant Science - a day for primary school students.

Olympiad training for students wishing to attempt the Physics Olympiad National Qualifying Examination is also offered in the School.

Physics Teachers Forum - blog

For HSC Physics teachers with tricky questions, a blog is now online. Take part in discussions with fellow teachers and physics academics from the School of Physics.

Other Programs

Physics is an active participant in the Science Faculty’s programs, such as Gifted and Talented Workshops.

We also take part in University-wide programs, such as Degree in a Day, Smith Family Experience Uni Day, and Koori day.

And broader programs, such as the Science Experience, Science in the City and Science in the Suburbs.

You can find us at the University Open days, such as Sydney Uni Live and Information Day. Look out for solar telescope viewings and hands on Flying Freezing Floating Physics activities in the Eastern Ave Foyer.

The Science Foundation for Physics runs the International Science School (ISS) and the Science Teachers Workshops at the School of Physics in alternate years.

Also, in 2006, 2007 and 2008 we were a partner in a primary science teacher mentoring program called MyScience.

Physics Calender

The 2010 Physics Calendar is available now - if you are a high school physics teacher, look out for it arriving on your desk.

If you do not receive one please contact .
