Information for New Staff and Students
Teaching Resources
There are about 22 teaching and research staff in the School. As well there are over 80 research-only staff, including a number holding prestigious fellowships, most notably our six Federation Fellowships (Professors Marcela Bilek, Ben Eggleton, Peter Robinson, Cathy Stampfl, Bryan Gaensler and Joss Bland-Hawthorn). Academic staff are supported by about 30 general staff (IT, technical, laboratory, student support and administration).
Please see the School's Teaching Resources page for teaching resources including available lecture demonstrations. For more information on lecture demonstrations contact the 'lec dem' manager, Nathan Apps.
Also see the Teaching section of the Physics Policies page.
Lecturing resources
- Course coordinators may wish to see the services offered for students from the Archives and Records Management service.
- Examinations office
For lecture theatre access codes and locations, see the Main Office. As lecture theatres are centrally booked, the user pays principal is used rather than assigning internet costs to a School or Unit. What this means is that a Unikey (Extro) account is required to "see" outside the University. Every staff member is given an Extro account, but apparently not all can look externally. Please contact Tony Monger to ensure your details are included on the School's list of teaching staff for internet access in lecture theatre (ie a Physics Extro account that can be used by its staff).
Assuming you use your Extro account and access the Internet for lectures/tutorials, a record of use is kept and used by ICT to bill the relevant School or Unit. Of course a main cost is use by staff in their offices, for which the School receives an annual charge. Staff are not personally liable for this (as it should be), but ICT must be able to distinguish such use from home personal use ($1/hour). For more information on Audio-Visual services offered see the University Ask Sydney – ICT site.
See the university Institute for Teaching and Learning website for information including student feedback procedures and training programs, to name but a couple of the many items.
Student Administration
Following are university websites associated with the administration of lectures, teaching and student enrolment.
