EMERITUS PROFESSOR DAME LEONIE KRAMER AC DBE

Dame Leonie Kramer was educated at PLC Melbourne, the University of Melbourne and Oxford University.

She has held a number of academic positions including at the University of Melbourne, Canberra University College, the University of New South Wales (1958-1968), and was Professor of Australian Literature at the University of Sydney (1968-1989).  Leonie also held the position of Chancellor at the University of Sydney from 1991 to 2001.

Leonie has served in various roles on a number of bodies such as the Chairman of the ABC (1982-1983), Chairman of NIDA (1987-1991), and has held business directorships in banking, insurance, mining, and electricity.  She has also served as a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Public Affairs (1988-1996), and has served on the NSW Board of Studies (1990-2001), on the NSW Council of Australian Institute of Company Directors (1992-2002), and on the Governing Council of Old Parliament House (1998-2001).

Leonie has also published widely as an editor and anthologist, with essays on Australian Literature, and many reviews and articles on literature and educational policy.
