Pat Donovan was born and educated in Adelaide. He worked for 42 years in the Chemical Industry, 36 years of which with Albright & Wilson (Aust) Ltd, before retiring as General Manager in 1996.

Pat is an Associate of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and a Chartered Chemist, and he was active in many Industry Associations. He is a Past President of the Chamber of Manufacturers of NSW, now Australian Business Ltd and is a Life Member. He has also served on numerous State and Federal Government Committees with interests ranging from Environmental issues to Industrial Relations and Defence matters.

Pat joined the Science Foundation in 1994 and was elected President in 2002. He was made a member of the Order of Australia in 1989 for services to Manufacturing and the Community.
