Thunderbird Configuration for Office365
(Modern Authentication/Oauth2)

Required Version

A recent version of Thunderbird is required—

91.10 102.4-0-1 is the most recent version provided by the Redhat repositories
for Redhat Enterprise Linux 7.9.

Configuring @sydney.edu.au email account

Start Thunderbird—

thunderbird

and wait for the Account Setup Wizard.

The fill in the account set up fields as per example.

Then select Configure manually

Choose Protocol: [IMAP] [SMTP]
Server:  [ outlook.office365.com ]  [ smtp.office365.com ]

and Re-test

There should be a green tick (✓).

Select from Authentication:

Authentication: [ OAuth2 ]   [ Oauth2 ]

And Done

You should be redirected to the University Unikey login page.
Sign in with your Unikey (not email address.)

Since April 2021 you may be asked for your MFA (Okta) code next.
