Astronomy@Sydney
One of the most popular areas of science is undoubtedly Astronomy. The School of Physics is very active in this area, with research under the banner of the Sydney Institute for Astronomy (SIfA). From the centre of the Sun to the edge of the Universe, SIfA researchers utilise the latest technologies and techniques to uncover the nature of the Universe and train the next generation of Australian scientists.
The School presents several undergraduate astronomy courses:
Junior Year
Astronomy: Discovering the Universe is aimed at interested students from all faculties.
Intermediate Year
Introduction to Stellar Astrophysics is a module in PHYS 2013/2913 Astrophysics and Relativity
Senior Year
Astrophysics in 3rd year continues the exploration of important astrophysical environments and processes. Special projects are also available which may involve working with staff on an astronomy project.
Honours Year
(courses vary every year)
Cosmology and Astrophysics
High Energy Astrophysics
Physics of the Standard Model
Plasma Astrophysics
Solar and Space Physics
Astrophysics (if not taken in the Senior Year)
A research project, occupying ~50% of the time, may be in one of the astronomical research groups

Centre for Continuing Education
For many years, staff of the School have also been active in the presentation of Astronomy courses to the general public through the University's Centre for Continuing Education. In recent years, a variety of Modern Astronomy courses have been given, together with bus tours to observatories in NSW.
In 2009 there is an extensive program as part of the International Year of Astronomy.
